More information: A passion that has been handed down from generation to generation: love for and dedication to wine making
The Ristella farm cultivates vineyards and olive groves for the most part, and is located at the feet of the ancient village of Montemassi, approximately 200 metres above sea level in the township of Roccastrada- a lovely part of Maremma near Grosseto - in a setting of olive trees that are centuries old. It is close to such beach resorts as Follonica, Castiglion della Pescaia and Punta Ala, all of which are about 30 kilometres away. Roccatederighi and Sassofortino are located 600 metres above sea level, offering cool relaxation in the shade of the many chestnut groves.
The farm was founded in the 1940’s when our family moved down south from the Appenine mountians on the Toscana-Emilia Romagna border and, after generations of lives dedicated to sheep farming, decided to integrate this activity with the cultivation of the vineyard. They obtained satisfying results, quality and esteem from consumers.
New vineyards were added the 1980’s with selected vines which in the future would bring about very high quality and much prestige.
We offer hospitality in an apartment used as a holiday residence: on two floors complete with two master bedrooms, one of which is air conditioned, both with their own bath; living room, kitchenette and a large garden that allows our guests to enjoy the tranquility offered by such an evocative landscape as that of the fortress of Montemassi; a barbecue invites you to grill your dinner and savour the results on a spacious patio.
As you walk around our farm, you will see our farm animals like our beautiful peacocks, or be enchanted by the collection of succulent plants that our son so lovingly cares for when he isn’t busy with his music (he’s an excellent pianist as well as the choir director at Roccastrada), or watch lo Zio (uncle) while he builds and stuffs chairs, an ancient trade which we hope will never be lost.
It is also possible to go for walks or rides along Mountain Bike routes to visit nearby medieval villages of Montemassi, Roccatederighi and Roccastrada that organise town festivals inspired by ancient customs of the era during the summer; as well as the mysterious Castello della Pia dé Tolomei castle, the very beautiful city of Massa Marittima, the characteristic lago dell’Accessa lake and the Etruscan necropolis of Vetulonia.
