More information:

Pian dei Mucini Country House is not the usual holiday farm found in Maremma Toscana where so many come just because it is in vogue or to take a holiday to compare to other places you have already seen. You will ask yourself  what could be so different! We would like to answer simply that if you wish to come and visit, come over sooner or later… And as you drive home you might think to yourself that it was well worth it!

It is no accident that famous people from the world of entertainment and sports (professional footballers, skiers, cyclists, journalists famous photographers) have stayed at our holiday farm located only 3 kilometres from Massa Marittima, all of whom were searching for simplicity, familiarity and courtesy but - above all – they were all people who enjoyed “living well” and blending that with genuineness and fun.

Our services include a restaurant reserved for guests of our facility, the cellar, suitable for keeping and tasting wines; an enclosed playground for children, a private car park, a route inside the property for trekking and mountain bike riding for children and adults; a pool (16 x 8) on two levels (120 cm & 150 cm); a wood stove and barbecue, bicycle garage and rental and a new multi-use grass field.

Our passion

Home style cuisine, cultivation of olives and vineyards, animals, various sports with special attention to bicycling. Special mention goes to the mountain bike school affiliated with the Italian Bicycle Federation, to street bikes, the garage and its mechanic, technical and nutritional assistance offered by professionals in the field.

Our products

Are grown with organic fertilizer blended with a very small percentage of chemical products. Oil, wine, liqueurs, cereal (wheat, barley etc) fodder for our small breeding of bovines are produced on our farm. A special mention must go to our Extra Virgin olive oil’s unmistakable flavor and harmony, the San giovese and malvasia grapes from our DOC vineyard are used to make our excellent “Monteregio” wine.

The facility

Named Citerniella farm, an old path runs along the property  that once connected medieval city Massa Marittima to today’s village of Prata; the name is probably derived from the water “cisterns” that were once in the area. The original nucleus of the facility, now demolished, dates back to (according to various details passed down over time) the late Middle Ages, whereas the more substantial portion of the structure along with all other portions that were added later on including the cellars and oven could date back to the Medici era up until the early 20th century. The story is told of Giuseppe Garibaldi, on the run in 1849, who stopped at the neighboring Podere Maleotti and even visited the Podere Citerniella.

The Pian dei Mucini Country Houses is now made up of two buildings: the first being the former manor house, whose walls most likely date back to the 14th/15th century, made up of 5 master bedrooms, a triple (all of which include bath an television) as well as three 2-room flats of various dimensions on different floors of the manor.

The two dining rooms are located on the ground floor. Breakfast is served there as well. The very next room leads to the cellar where our products are preserved, our wines, oils and typical products can also be sampled there. Floors and ceilings were renovated with authentic materials wherever possible.

The flat called Salvia (sage) is also located on the ground floor. This 2-room flat also offers access to the disabled and is made up of a living area with kitchenette and couch-bed, master bedroom and bath.

An separate staircase leads to the first floor where 3 bedrooms are located:

Albatro (albatross): a triple with bath and closet plus kitchenette and sofa.

Verbena (verbena): master bedroom with space for a third bed, full bath and small terrace

Margherita (daisy): master bedroom with space for a third bed, full bath.

On the second floor of the same building there are 3 bedrooms and a flat.

Erica (heather): master bedroom with space for a third bed, full bath

Calendula (marigold): master bedroom with space for a third bath, full bath

Viola (violet): double bedroom or master bedroom, full bath

Alloro (laurel): 2-room flat with couch-bed in living room, bath

Alloro and Viola are adjacent, they share a terrace. Can be reserved as a single accommodation.

The Biancospino (hawthorne) located on the third floor is a master bedroom with an attached single bedroom and bath. Suitable for a family.

The second building, once used for stable and barn is made up of 5 lovely flats, all of which are located on the ground floor. They can accommodate 2 or more and are all typified by an architecture featuring porticos and other features in the original stone.

Casa Malva (mauve): on two floors, made up of an entrance onto the  living room with couch-bed, lofted kitchen, master bedroom, bath with shower and spacious outdoor portico.

Casa Girasole (sunflower): 2 – room flat with entrance onto the living room with couch-bed, kitchenette, master bedroom, bath with shower and portico.

Casa Fiordaliso (cornflower): 2 – room flat with entrance onto living room with couch-bed and kitchenette, master bedroom, bath with shower, terrace with large shaded area with umbrella. Suitable for disabled guests.

Casa Camelia (camellia): more secluded overlooking the pool, a 3-room flat on two floors made up of entrance onto living room with couch-bed and kitchen, bath with tub, master bedroom on the first floor, terrace, bath with shower.

All of this is immersed in a typically Mediterranean natural context with delicate and authentic colours.
